Leading Alzheimer Care Expert joins Royal Nursing and Rehab Center in Falmouth
Already noted for expertise in caring for patients with Alzheimer’s, the Royal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has expanded and improved its program with the addition of one of the Commonwealth’s most respected Alzheimer care experts. Maureen Bradley brings 40 years of long term care experience to her new position as Director of the Alzheimer’s program for the Royal Health Group’s facility on Main Street in Falmouth. In addition to being certified in Alzheimer’s Dementia Training, Bradley has also served on the patient and family committees of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Cape and the Island Alzheimer’s Services.
According to a national report issued this year by the Alzheimer’s Association, 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and a new individual is diagnosed with the disease every 70 seconds. “As a family owned and operated business it is important for us to offer families the best in quality care for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s,” said Jim Mamary, owner of the Royal Health Group, which includes the Falmouth facility. “This disease affects not only those who have been diagnosed with it, but also those family members who have been under a great deal of strain in trying to care for loved ones at home. Maureen understands this disease from all angles, which is invaluable in providing compassionate, state-of-the-art care.”
“Instead of looking strictly at the disease, I look at the person,” says Bradley. “Everyone who struggles with dementia or Alzheimer’s is a person who raised a family, a person who lived and worked in the community before the onset of the disease. I try to keep that in mind always. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.”
Royal’s Falmouth facility offers 39 beds dedicated to Alzheimer patients, with programs tailored to their specific needs. “More than 50 percent of residents in assisted living or nursing homes have some form of dementia or cognitive impairment and these numbers are on the rise,” said Todd Funk, Executive Director of the Royal facility in Falmouth. “Our dedicated care unit allows us to meet the needs of our residents with Alzheimer’s, and Maureen’s expertise will strengthen our program while providing additional peace of mind for families who have entrusted their loved ones to our care,” explained Funk.
Maureen will also oversee a major effort to strengthen the Alzheimer’s program at all six Royal nursing homes, including Royal Megansett Nursing and Retirement Home in North Falmouth.
